INDEX 2008
With more than 13,000 attendees, FILTREX 2008 was not only the largest such exhibition but also offered ‘product presentations’ and numerous interesting new products, concepts and services. We concentrated on ‘filtration’.
HOLLINGSWORTH & VOSE introduced Nanowave™ , a proprietary synthetic filter material based on nanofiber mainly developed for HVAC, respirator, automotive - air intake and cabin air filter applications. Nanowave™ filters last longer than conventional glass media, offers twice the dust holding capacity than ‘synthetic’ media, its stiffness allows proper (HVAC) ‘bag opening’, retainment of shape, reduces set-up time and increases productivity.

KURARAY presented at INDEX their NANOFIBER NONWOVENS, comparing it to its own ‘meltblown’ and ‘calendared meltblown’ materials. When used in liquid filtration, filtration efficiency in comparison to flow rates of ‘conventional media’ shows that the new Nanofiber material is far superior.

BCH — BUSINESS CO-OPERATION HOUSE from India, exhibited competence, knowledge and superior connections in the fast growing industrial/technical textiles and nonwovens — notably filtration — market in India. This company — just 3 years old — has already conducted several workshops, seminars with EDANA, but also publishes their own professional magazine and offers, due to membership, leading nonwoven producers located in India their entire production and know-how potential. BCH looks like a ‘desired partner’ for any company who wants to expand into this fast growing ‘world of opportunities’ called India.
With more than 300 million people belonging to the ‘middle class’, India will eventually become the second largest market for filtration right behind China. It will take however much longer than what we witnessed during the last few years in China. The growth in India will be substantial, lasting and established with a solid foundation. FILTER MEDIA CONSULTING INC. is planning to explore these opportunities with a brand new report- NONWOVENS AND WOVENS IN FILTRATION IN INDIA - in close partnership and co-operation with a competent Indian co-sponsor. Details to be announced shortly.

TIANJIN TEDA FILTERS CO. — well know to us for numerous years, exhibited their ‘synthetic’ HEPA/ULPA filter media, but also similar advanced filter materials for face masks. The TEDA ‘pleatable air media - TDY series — consist of a 2-layer structure, by which one layer is ‘electrostatically’ enhanced — polypropylene meltblown - and another layer of stiffer Polyester substrate as a support for pleating. Resistance is considerably lower than ‘micro glass’ media used for these applications.

BRIC
These letters represent the countries — BRAZIL, RUSSIA, INDIA, CHINA — with the largest growth potential in coming years. Not just looking at the automotive industry but in general, expected annual growth, will be higher as compared to many "old" economies and naturally consume many filtration materials and pollution control equipment. Their economies are expected to show higher growth than in most other countries during the next few years. We have suggested not only to look closely to China but also to India, although their growth rate will be more modest as compared to China. As already reported, we are currently preparing a very detailed report about "Filtration in India", hopefully available later this year.
